Nama-stay in them all day.

Bum-sculpting, squat-proof and downward dog-approved.

Yoga shorts. Somewhat the forgotten cousin of the studio outfit, they're actually incredibly versatile, comfortable and practical, especially when the temperatures start to warm, or when you're engaging in Bikram or hot yoga. Yoga shorts can keep you cool, keep you calm and keep you flexible, but they're not all created equal. If you've been wanting to grab yourself a pair for the studio (or, let's face it, if you're stuck at home) we've rounded up the 12 of the best-rated bum cuddlers on the Aussie market. Made from a super soft and stretchy polyester and spandex blend, these shorts are made especially for yoga and are comfy, breathable and designed to hold up (and not rise up) no matter what tricky pose you find yourself in. They have a flat, high-rise waistband that won't roll down you slip thigh pockets for whatever you need to stash away and a flat lock seam that won't chafe. Moisture-wicking and breathable, they're a perfect option for the studio - or the home studio!

My most fervent belief is that activewear should never be boring, so I'm a big fan of these bright and colourful shorts from Sweaty Betty. Available in two designs (I love the green floral option, too), they're sweat-wicking and breathable, with a perfect mid-thigh length that will keep you covered and comfy while not making you sweat as you move through your practice. With a side pocket to stash your phone on the way to the studio, they have a high-waist that will keep you tucked in. "Compliments guaranteed," wrote one happy reviewer. "I wore this with the matching bra to a recent strength and conditioning class, and it passed all the tests: squat-proof, quick-drying, and fab for hiding away the tummy (gotta love a high waist band)."

Made with Lorna Jane's trademarked "nothing to see here" fabric, these are guaranteed to let you do all your favourite moves without any risk of a VPL. A soft and lightweight polyester and elastane blend, these are moisture-wicking, sweatproof and breathable and have a soft-fold waistband so you can wear them up or down. "Love it!" raves a review. "Super comfortable and breathable. Love the prints, got so many compliments about how it makes me look skinnier!"

Designed with yoga in mind, these shorts come in a bunch of great colours and are perfect for those who prefer a little more length, reaching just to the knee for greater coverage and peace of mind. Super high waisted to keep you all tucked in, it also has a hidden pocket for your credit card or a key, and is made of soft, buttery nylon/spandex blend fabric that will stretch with you throughout your workout. "Perfect for anything," raves a fan. "These shorts are super comfy and great fit Perfect for yoga or pilates or the gym including running - very happy, good coverage of legs too."

With cute, funky colours and patterns, these shorts will definitely help you stand out in the back of the studio (or on the zoom!) They're bright and quirky and made from super-soft, moisture-wicking and stretchy fabric and have a high waistband to help you feel secure and supported throughout your practice.

Another pair I love simply because of the fierceness of the fabric, these are very on-trend pink and red and I love everything about them, not least the fact that they're super stretchy, uber soft and have a pocket for your phone, your card, your keys or, let's be honest, since it's 2021: your face mask. With sculpting seams and a four-way stretch, they'll keep you nice and tight but support you as you move, and are made from a moisture-wicking, breathable polyester elastane blend for a lightweight touch and feel.

These shorts have Running Bare's highest waistband, crafted in a soft, flexible fabric that folds up or down depending on how you like to wear it. Wear it up for more coverage and support or down for maximum comfort. Flatlock seams reduce skin irritation and chafing and the slightly longer, just-above-knee length leg means you can work out in comfort, knowing you've got a little more coverage, while still keeping cool as you sweat.

Cotton On makes great basics and these shorts are no exception. Seamless and crafted from a super-comfortable ripped fabric, they're soft on the skin and stretchy, no matter the workout, with wide waistband to keep you tucked in while you move. "Fits well, does not shift while working out. Tightness is just right to tuck the tummy in," writes one reviewer, adding, "I could live in these shorts!"

A shorter version of Lululemon's much-loved bike shorts (listed above) these feature the same super-soft and buttery, moisture-wicking, and sweat-proof fabric, but in a higher cut. They're once again high-rise for maximum comfort and support and since they're designed specifically for yoga, you know they'll carry you seamlessly through every pose and movement. "Favourite workout shorts," raves one reviewer. "Super comfy and buttery soft. Love that they're flattering on the tummy and backside. I stocked up on two more because they're now my go-to for yoga and Pilates workouts."

A great pair of basic blacks from Lorna Jane, these high-waisted sculpting shorts are soft and comfortable yet squat-proof and butt-defining. With sculpting seams and ribbed fabric, they're flattering and comfortable and are both moisture-wicking and sweat resistant, with four-way stretch thanks to their nylon/elastane blend. "Amazing Fabric!" says one reviewer. "Absolutely love this ribbed fabric. Really supportive and firm-fitting. Great overall cut and shape."

You'd expect a great pair of yoga shorts from a powerhouse like Nike and these are no exception. With a super sculpting, high-rise waistband, they're 100 percent squat-proof and are made from a soft as silk Infinalon fabric that is compressive without being restricting. They're moisture-wicking, breathable, and stretchy and will guide you through every pose with ease. "These shorts are SO soft and the compression is just right!" writes one reviewer, adding, "I love the length of them (mid-thigh) and how high-waisted they are. They really conform to the contours of your body and I can squat and twist around very comfortably."

This slim-fitting tie-dye design from L'urv are a cute and comfy pair for the studio or at home. Made from soft compression fabric, they have a slightly shorter length to show off your pins, and a shaped wrap waistband for added comfort. With flat-lock seams they're anti-chafe, and their polyester/elastane blend means they're moisture-wicking and sweat resistant.

You want to avoid anything too short or too loose. Remember, you'll be doing a fair amount of twisting and contorting to achieve all your usual poses, so anything too loose will risk a bit of underwear exposure and anything too short might make you feel a bit on display when you've got your legs high in the air (or maybe not - you do you!) The best bet is something that reaches around mid-thigh or just above your knee.

You're also looking for material that is stretchy and comfy, that will stay down and not bunch up during your movement. In terms of material, anything moisture-wicking is key. Stick to synthetic fibres like nylon and polyester blends as they are generally anti-sweat and anti-odour.
